چکیده

This paper presents a study in which endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) of saphenous veins with a VSP Nd:YAG laser system (Fotona, Ljubljana, Slovenija) was conducted on 525 legs. The study was held at a single clinical site (Avelana vein clinic) over a 2.5 year period. The first 102 legs underwent EVLA at 15W to 18W average power, supplied from Nd:YAG laser. In the remaining 423 legs EVLA was administered at an average power of 25W. After 1 year, 88.2% of the veins in the 15-18W treatment group remained occluded; in the 25W treatment group 98.5% of the veins remained occluded. Side effects were minimal. All patients, even those whose veins were not fully ablated reported satisfaction with the treatment. The results of the study have lead us to conclude that the 1064 nm, VSP Nd:YAG laser is an effective and safe treatment modality for varicose veins.

Treatment of Venous Ulcer of the Lower Leg by Endovenous Laser Ablation

Venous ulcer is the most advanced stage of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). Its prevalence is estimated to be between 1% and 3%. Recent articles have suggested that leg ulcers with reflux in superficial veins can be treated by endovenous laser ablation (EVLA). Endovenous laser ablation of the great and/or short saphenous vein has already become the treatment of choice for varicose vein and c...

Thrombus Formation Using Endovenous Lasers

Endovenous laser ablation is a commonly used, effective treatment of the incompetent great saphenous vein (GSV). Despite its efficacy, complications have been observed following the procedure, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). Thermally induced thrombus formed during laser exposure in the vein lumen is a possible precursor to more serious side effects like DVT. Pos...

Retrograde Endovenous Laser Ablation through Saphenopopliteal Junctional Area for Incompetent Small Saphenous Vein: Comparison with Antegrade Approach

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the safety and efficacy of retrograde endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) and to compare it with the conventional antegrade EVLA for incompetent small saphenous vein (SSV). MATERIALS AND METHODS Small saphenous vein was cannulated via two approaches under ultrasound-guidance. One method involved puncturing the SSV cranially at mid-calf (the antegrade group). If the antegrad...

Effects of endovenous laser ablation on vascular tissue: molecular genetics approach.

BACKGROUND Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) is a treatment option for lower extremity varicose veins. In the present study, we investigate to the genetic changes and possibility of living tissue in the saphenous vein wall after the EVLA procedure. METHODS Eleven saphenous vein grafts were randomized in two groups: (1) 4 cm SVG segments of performed EVLA procedure in study group, (2) 4 cm segm...
